Looking for the perfect off grid home or cabin for hunting, fishing and recreational property? Come see this brand new 24 X 24 cabin for sale on 55 +/- acres of mixed timberland located on pristine trout filled Mattakeunk Stream in the eastern Maine town of Springfield.

The cabin was built in 2018 with metal clad siding and roofing for maintenance free use. 10 high efficiency windows and insulated door keep the home comfortable while allowing in plenty of natural light. The foundation is a 5 +/- foot frost wall set on ledge with a foam insulated slab. It’s solid! The interior of the cabin is insulated with fiberglass and is unfinished. Heating is from an attractive wood stove set in the center of the living space. The owners of the property utilize a small solar system backed up with a combination LP & Gasoline generator that will convey with the property.

The newly constructed 8 x 10 storage shed will house a lot of your gear. A drilled well provides water to the structure. A full septic system with a dependable stone bed leaching field was installed in 2018. The driveway has two legs one accessing the cabin and another continuing towards the access to Mattakeunk Stream.

The land is 55.1  +/- surveyed acres of mixed growth forestland interested by Mattaseunk Stream. The land highest along the Old Winn Road and gently slopes towards the stream. Elevations on the site vary from 340 to 380 +/- feet above sea level. NRCS soil mapping indicates areas near the cabin to be well suited to farming with other areas good for limited grazing, growing timber and recreational use.

The East Branch of Mattakeunk Stream is a pristine wilderness trout stream with headwaters emerging from the ground in the hills of Springfield and Webster Plantation. It then meanders westerly and northerly with other small feeder streams entering along the way. Eventually it merges with the main stem of Mattakeunk Stream just before the combined flows meet the Mattawamkeag River. This is all part of the Penobscot River drainage.

The section of the stream that flows through this property is a still water section between beaver dams. This is a friendly place to paddle canoes and kayaks while watching wading birds and waterfowl or secretly viewing moose and deer that travel and feed along the edges. For the trout fisherman this is good water with nice hatches of may and caddis flies. Evenings on this still water can bring the surface alive with the splashes of feeding wild brook trout.

Springfield Maine is a very rural eastern Penobscot County town with about 400 residents. The area is mostly undeveloped forest with a few small farms along the town roads.
