Maine Log Home for Sale in Fort Kent

The 2200+- square foot hand scribed log home situated in the town of Fort Kent on Bossy Mountain harkens back to when this rugged and beautiful landscape was first settled by the Acadian people in the 1700’s. The log home was built in 1996 with large diameter pine logs atop a full, poured concrete foundation. The 3 bedroom, two full baths, off-grid log home is as rugged as the landscape; and is perfectly matched to the environment it is situated in. The home was built to need a minimal amount of electricity to provide a secure and comfortable place to reside. A small photo voltaic and generator powered electrical system provides the power needed for lighting, water pumping and clothes washing. Cooking and refrigeration utilize propane, and a wood cook stove provides both heat and cooking on the first floor during the colder months of the year.

The property is nestled in a stand of mature maple trees that would make an excellent sugar bush. The home looks out over a vast area of hardwood covered valley, and trout filled ponds. The home is exceptionally private, as it is the last home on the mile long private gravel road traversed to reach it. It is only a 15 minute drive from this private retreat to the center of Fort Kent where shopping, work, education and healthcare are all available. A tract of Maine Public Land abuts the property to the west making this an extremely desirable mountain top location. The master bedroom is situated to take advantage of the rising and setting sun. Spacious and secure decks on both the first and second floors provide opportunities to take in the exceptional views from this off-grid property. Call today to make this property your home. Let the rising and setting sun start and finish your day atop Bossy Mountain.

The community of Fort Kent, ME is located in northern Aroostook County. Fort Kent has a population of approximately 4,097 residents. The Town of Fort Kent is located in a region of Maine and New Brunswick known as the St. John Valley. This area encompasses the rivers, streams and valleys that flow into the St. John River. The early settlers of this area were predominantly French speaking, and that heritage continues to this day. The residents of this area have a close connection to the land working it either as farmers or timber harvesters and the related support industries. The area is a four season recreational destination for many. The lakes, ponds, rivers and streams are sparkling, clean and full of brook trout, landlocked salmon and lake trout. The St. John River has become a destination for Muskie fishing as well, as this species has become firmly established in the cold clear waters of the St. John River watershed. The farmland interspersed amongst the thousands of acres of rolling timberland is home to ruffed grouse, deer, moose and bear. Soldier Pond is part of the Fish River chain of lakes an area that starts in the Town of Portage Lake and extends into Fort Kent, ME where the Fish River flows into the St. John River. This area draws anglers from around the world to ply the waters searching for trophy class trout and salmon. Eagle Lake is 5,581 acres in size with a maximum depth of 136 feet. The waters of Eagle Lake are cool with a surface temperature in the summer of 66 degrees and 46 degree water is found at a depth of 130 feet. The cold water species of lake trout, brook trout and landlocked salmon thrive here. The section of Route 11 that begins in Portage Lake ending in Fort Kent has been designated a scenic byway. The drive along this section of road provides breathtaking views of the lakes, rolling farmland, and timber filled woodlands of the Fish River Scenic Byway. Many outdoor events are promoted in this area with the Fort Kent International Muskie Tournament drawing anglers to the area in search of a trophy musky and a winning purse during August each year. In the winter the area supports the Can-Am sled dog competition as well as the world cup biathlon competition. Ice fisherman can participate in the Long Lake Ice Fishing Derby that happens just a few miles from Fort Kent in the town of St. Agatha each year. Ample snowfall provides snowmobilers excellent opportunities to explore the area on sled during the winter months, and many miles of ATV trails provide a similar opportunity during the summer and fall.
