The area also has great hiking trails at the Bold Coast in Culter, Lubec, and on Beals Island, all being an easy driving distance away.

 Wesley was incorporated in 1833 and named for John Wesley who was the founder of the English Methodist Movement. The area was also made famous for its stage stops along Rt 9, the "Airline" or "Wolf Route" and the big hills that have made history over the years with travel in the wintertime. It is an area well known for hunting and fishing, along with that comes the tales and stories of the big game hunters and poachers such as Wilber Day and George Magoon who had books written about their lives hunting the area.
